This has been a painting that has been in the works for some time. I started it and then had to leave it while we went to Maui with all of the family. (Yeah, it was tough!) It’s hard to leave a painting when you have the momentum going and the ideas all in your head, spend time away, then come back and start all over again. It takes a certain discipline, for sure. But, all that being said, I went back to it with a passion. Part way thru all of these rocks, which are five layers of paint thick, I said to myself once again….’What the hell were you thinking!?” But, what good is a challenge if you don’t follow thru with it to the best of your abilities? It’s the only way you can grow as an artist.
This reference file was given to me by the very talented Murray O’Neill, who lives in BC, Canada. He has been so generous with me, offering most anything he has in a vast amount of incredible photos. It is so very much appreciated by me. It’s so much easier to work on a painting when you have wonderful reference material. The eagle was from Canada, but the river rocks are all mine, from all my travels up and down the river here in Oregon.
