NOT ANOTHER STEP

"NOT ANOTHER STEP"    I taught for many years in State and Federal Prisons and one of my favorite times was when I taught under a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts.  Inmates are a completely different society.   As a teacher, you do not just walk in and they automatically trust or respect you.  They are a tough crowd.   When I first started the "Not Another Step" tiger painting, I was beginning a brand-new class in an Oregon Federal Prison. I did it as a demonstration while the class watched.  I used it not only to show them I knew how to paint, but also to display different painting techniques, how to add drama, depth, contrast, and, more importantly, I wanted to keep their attention while doing it.  As one of the largest cats in the world, the tiger is also one of the most fearless. Beautiful and fearless is an awesome and, in this case, a deadly combination. You can see this cat is in complete control and you get the message..... "Not Another Step".!
