Ever since I had a wild Sandhill Crane fly in and eat out of my hand, I’ve had another love for them. They are a very cool bird. The two paintings I’ve already done were immediately sold and I’ve been wanting to do another. When bob showed me these, I had to do it again. This painting is titled, “Honeymooners in Alaska”. That is Denali in the background. It was called Mt McKinley when I was in school, but later got changed. I remember, on one trip to Alaska, that a friend was showing me around when I heard such a racket coming from a field. There must have been 10,000 of these guys all talking to each other and doing this funny little dance. It was so exciting to see, and, of course, I wasn’t a photographer in those days!
I have a photographer friend in Denver named Bob Magee, who is a wonderful photographer and has given me access to his entire catalog. Something like 66,000 photos. Along with all the other photographers who have been so kind, I could paint for the next hundred years and never run out of reference material. Good news/bad news! It seems like it’s either feast or famine! Anyway, I really appreciate his and their generosity
