Lookin Back

We have a lot of elk here in Oregon and I love the various moods and textures when I do these artworks. I have photographed them on many occasions and never tire of it. In this painting, you can tell that hunting season has not come around, but the rut is beginning to make some of the bulls try out for "toughest bull" status. This guy has a very serious look in his eye, but serious or not, I think he is beautiful. It was pure joy to paint this painting. I wanted the day to be foggy and for him to be the absolute center of attention so I'm happy with the final result.
